The elderly in home care may be at the prime of their ages, but they are not to be underestimated. While their appearance may not show it, there’s a child within them waiting to be unleashed.
Think of your senior companions as people who are still capable of being playful and having fun. Their bodies may have aged significantly and the fun you normally have may not be best for them, but there are other activities you can do which they will happily partake in and experience nostalgia at its finest.
Here are some of the activities you can do, which are guaranteed to bring out their inner child:
Arts and Crafts
With this activity, you and your senior companion can put your creative minds to the test. Crafting something out of your hands can bring out so many ideas you would want to make a reality in the form of picturesque and childlike works of art.
To make it more interesting, try making it a game between you and your grandmother/father and see who can create something first. Reward is all the love, fun, and happiness between the two of you.
Bubble Blowing
Bubbles are one of the many things that bring out the childlike happiness within anyone, seniors included. All you’ll need for this is your bubble juice, your bubble wand, and your imaginations running wild.
To add more fun to it, make another game out of it and see who between you and your grandparent can blow the biggest bubble and not have it pop.
Watching Funny Family-Friendly Movies
Watching movies is a good way to bond with your family, especially with your grandparents. Movies can come in many genres, one of the best being comedies that are best suited for the young and the young-at-heart.
Pick out the best and funniest film you can watch with your family for the night, heat up the popcorn, and just sit back and enjoy the show. The funnier the movie, the louder the laughs.
Solving Jigsaw Puzzles
This activity will not just bring out the child within you, but it also keeps your mind sharper than ever. Puzzles can form numerous images so if you wish to mentally challenge yourself, then this is the activity for you.
Plus, you can make it another fun game between you and your grandparent and see who, between the two of you, can solve the puzzle the fastest.
Going for a Swim
Swimming doesn’t have to be exclusive for the summertime as there are numerous community pools for you and your family to enjoy in. Have your grandparent/s tag along and have fun splashing around in the water.
If you don’t feel the need to go to a community swimming pool, that’s fine too as there are numerous inflatable pools you can use and set up in your backyard. Take out the pump, inflate the pool, add some pool toys, and have lots of fun without ever leaving your home.
These things are just a few of the countless activities your elderly loved ones can happily partake in. Not only will these bring out childhood memories, but these will also strengthen the bonds you have with them and give you a glimpse of what they were like as children themselves.
